Supercharging your presentations with Gamma

Create AI-generated content to save time and enhance your materials

There are tons of great tools available to help teachers create materials, develop lesson plans, and generally make the preparation for teaching a bit easier. When I think about what was available 10 years ago, heck, even 3 years ago, I’m blown away by how much edtech has changed. In a recent blog post, I reflected on how using Gemini to develop course materials for my business English class helped me save time.

I have mixed feelings, though, about the use of AI in teaching which I hope to write a bit more about later. But I think teachers should generally use what is available to them to make their lives easier. In the spirit of sharing tools to make teachers’ lives a bit more manageable, I wanted to highlight a tool that could be useful for teachers.

Gamma to create presentations

Gamma is a tool that can help you present information to learners or other audiences. You can use these Gamma to generate websites and slide decks with your content in a matter of seconds.

Let’s take a closer look.

Gamma offers a lot of control for how you present content, and I haven’t spent a ton of time diving into all of the features. One feature I have used is the Generate option where you generate content based on a text prompt. The content generated seems to be pretty accurate, and it offers a nice place to begin refining the content for presentation.

You also have the option of generating content based on text you paste in or files you import.

If you import files, you have the option of importing different file types as well as content straight from the URL.

Once you’ve chosen your source for the content, you can select how to present the information. You can create presentations (slides), webpages, documents, or social media posts.

Once you’ve selected the type of presentation you’d like, you have some control over the details of how the information is presented. You can choose how many slides, for example, as well as the level of detail of the content, whether to use stock or AI generated images, and give notes about the overall style.

You also have control over the overall design of the presentation. There are quite a few pre-made templates to choose from.

Once the content has been generated, you can continue to revise and edit the presentation manually. You can update the images and content as well as other design elements.

One thing to consider with the AI-generated images is that they can be weird. In the example I’ve generated, you will find an abundance of extra limbs in the images. There is the option to use stock photos, though, so you can avoid this if you don’t want to deal with strange images.

Final thoughts

The amount of content you’re able to create with Gamma for free is pretty robust, but it does use a credit system to use the AI-generation tools. Generating content with the AI tools costs different amounts of credit. Users have the option to upgrade, though, if they want to use more credit.

As with all AI-generation tools, I think the most important thing to keep in mind is revision. You can create amazing things in minutes, but it’s still your job as the instructor to proofread everything to make sure it really communicates the ideas you are hoping to share with learners.
